BRAKES

Our Brake servicing covers a wide range of systems to suit different bikes and riding styles.

Disc brakes are commonly found on modern bikes and come in two types: cable-operated or hydraulic.

Cable disc brakes require regular adjustment to keep braking sharp, with cable adjustments priced at £10, while hydraulic disc brakes may need bleeding to remove air and maintain consistent performance – this costs £15 per caliper for mineral oil systems and £20 per caliper for DOT oil systems.

Brake pads are a routine replacement item for both systems and start from just £5 for a pair.

In addition to disc brakes, we also service cantilever brakes, typically found on road, gravel, and some mountain bikes, as well as V brakes and cable V brakes, which are most common on mountain bikes and more affordable, entry-level bikes.

Full Pricing on our Brake servicing is as follows:

Mineral oil £15 per bleed for caliper

Dot oil £20 per bleed.

Cable adjustment £10

Pads from £5 for both

GEARING

When it comes to gears, the two names you’ll see most often are Shimano and SRAM. Both manufacturers produce a full range of drivetrain components, from entry-level setups through to top-end performance groups, and both are trusted across road, gravel, and mountain bikes. In real-world terms, either brand offers excellent reliability, smooth shifting, and strong long-term performance when properly set up and maintained.

The main differences tend to come down to design and feel rather than outright quality. Shimano is known for its refined, mechanical precision and familiar two-lever shifting on road bikes, while SRAM takes a slightly more minimalist approach with its single-paddle road shifters and early adoption of 1x drivetrains, particularly popular on gravel and mountain bikes. Crank design also differs, with Shimano favouring its proven Hollowtech aluminium system and SRAM often using carbon on higher-end models to reduce weight.

From a servicing point of view, both systems are straightforward to work on and equally well supported with spare parts. What matters most is correct adjustment, clean drivetrain components, and timely replacement of worn parts. Whether your bike runs Shimano or SRAM, regular gear servicing will keep shifting crisp, quiet, and dependable—exactly how it should be.
